Those who are environmentally conscious make decisions daily that help benefit the planet and reduce their carbon footprint. Choices like using cloth grocery bags, buying organic products, growing ones own food, recycling and carpooling are just a few of the ways individuals make a positive impact.
Although purchasing organic and green products at major retailers is a sound personal choice; it’s also important to consider the ways that the companies you buy from work to reduce waste and fight pollution. The way large corporations conduct their business operations makes a much larger impact on the environment, for better or worse.
If a major retailer carries green products, but does nothing to recycle or conserve energy themselves, then are they truly green? Genuine green businesses work to make a measurable difference on their overall impact. This goes beyond mere slogans and carrying a few green products.
Green businesses actively engage in policies and principles that improve not only the environment, but the quality of life for customers. A good example is organic, green house cleaning products. They not only use environmentally friendly ingredients and recyclable packaging; they improve the health of their customers by removing toxins from the home and improving indoor air quality.
There are several benefits to supporting green business.
Supporting businesses that make a large positive impact on the environment naturally enhances your own environmental efforts.
Green companies tend to espouse principles that make them better places to work for their employees. When you support these businesses, you support workers.
Green businesses also tend to support their local communities, engaging in practices that directly benefit that location. Several sponsor recycling events for example, or participate in local projects designed to improve the area.
Green companies will often use alternative energies like solar or wind. This of course gives business to other green companies, promoting and supporting innovation while moving us further away from dependency on non-sustainable resources.
Kheops International not only supports going green as a corporate value, but a way of life. From the lunch room to the warehouse, sustainability is a key component to our business. Here are just a few examples of the green actions we take in our daily operations.
In our lunchroom, we compost food scraps and coffee grounds, diminish waste by not using single-use containers and use ceramic dishes and cups instead of paper or Styrofoam.
We recycle all materials possible, use paper and packaging with post-consumer recycled fiber, and use solar panels for a large portion of our electricity. Our facilities use only natural, green cleaning products. We are also partnered with the EPA’s Waste-Wise program. You can learn more about the full extent of our efforts on our “About Us” page.
